Fasting Rules of Ash Wednesday 2011

Ash Wednesday 2011 Fasting Rules
A period of forty days, Christians are on the threshold of fasting, introspection, repentance, spiritual spring cleaning and return to God, respected by everyone in the world. It begins with Ash Wednesday (March 9 this year) and ends with Easter Sunday (April 24). Borrowed is observed as a time of fasting in remembrance of Christ's fasting 40 days in the desert before beginning his public ministry of preaching and healing. 40 days of Lent is also a throw back to the Exodus of the Old Testament, the period of 40 years it took for the Hebrews, the chosen people of God, flee the oppressive yoke of Egyptian kings, the Pharaohs, to reach the promised land of milk and honey.
