Gaza children bounce balls in the Guinness record bid
The news from Rafah Gaza Strip: The top U.N. aid official in the city of Gaza says that over 7,500 children in the Palestinian territory have simultaneously dribbled basketballs for five minutes in an try to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.
The event took place on a bombed-out airport runway near the southern Gaza town of Rafah.
They confirmed that the local U.N. chief John Ging says they expects to know in a few days if the children set the record. To do something about that, they must beat a 2007 record set in Illinois.
The event was part of the U.N.'s summer camps for about 250,500 Gaza children.
The U.N. official coordinator said Gaza children set their first world record last year simultaneously flying over 3,200 kites, a record they will try to break next week.
The document calls on states to the suspend all transfers of havy military equipment, assistance and munitions to Israel, Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups until there is no longer a substantial risk that such equipment will be used to commit serious violations of international law.
